Garden Jobs for February

February brings lighter mornings and the first signs of spring in the garden. Early bulbs such as daffodils and crocus start to provide a bit of colour teasing us into the garden. Here is a short roundup of this months jobs in the garden to help get it ready for spring.

  1. Prune winter flowering plants that have finished flowering. 
  2. Cut down deciduous ornamental grasses, before fresh shoots appear.
  3. Divide large clumps of snowdrops and replant in the green.
  4. Start planning summer bulbs in pots indoors.
  5. Sow tender crops like tomatoes and chillies on a warm sunny windowsill or heated propagator
  6. Clean and sharpen tools (future you will be grateful) 
  7. Chit seed potatoes (let them sprout before planting)
  8.  Put up bird boxes before nesting season starts
